Emerging from winter dreaming to the vibrancy of early spring, we humans and more-than- humans frolic into new life with the vibrancy and potency of powerful spring winds. It makes sense that after a period of dreamy hibernation we jump at the chance to move and do!

The natural world informs us, however, that we are leaving the cave transformed, blossoming into something new, a never-before-seen expression of Divine Mystery. If, in rest, we haven’t taken to heart the questions and stories we took with us into hibernation, our emergence will quickly land us in a trap: the path of the majority. This path is pre-formed and selected for us by humans who control and profit from our sleepwalking. It is a trap notoriously easy to fall into; we must be vigilant.

This silent retreat offers us precious time to discern, renew and urge each other’s original way of wisdom over society’s way.

This poem, “Trail Sign” by Geneen Marie Haugen will serve as our theme. I ask that you read it before you arrive and set upon your heart a claim to “searing aliveness” which is so needed for ourselves and planet.
