Informal hike at Blockhouse Point
New Year’s Day, Saturday, January 1st, we’ll join naturalist Marney Bruce on an informal hike to the outlook at Blockhouse Point. We’ll be part of another small group but will break up at a certain point in order to share a few reflections.
This isn’t a long walk. It's a moderate hike on a natural surface with one or two semi-steep inclines. We will reach a point with an expansive view of the Potomac.
What: Informal First Day Hike, Saturday, Jan. 1.
Time: Noon to 2:30ish
Where: Blockhouse Point, 14750 River Road, Darnestown, MD 20854. Do not stop at the large parking lot. Turn right onto Petitt Way and park on Petitt Way. Meet at small gravel parking lot.Take caution crossing River Road.
Bring: Snack, water. (No chair, we’ll sit on the ground or rocks.) A poem, song or reflection if you like.
Please read below:
We’ve been to Blockhouse before. However...
NOTE THAT WE ARE NOT MEETING AT THE PARKING LOT WHERE WE’VE MET PREVIOUSLY.
We meet at the small parking lot across from Pettit Way. Drive to the address Montgomery Parks gives us: 14750 River Road, Darnestown, MD 20854 where you’ll see the large parking lot for Blockhouse Point. Keep going past that large parking lot another 1000 ft or so. Turn right to park onto Petitt Way. Pettit Way is directly across River Road from the small parking lot entrance to Blockhouse.
I noticed today that some people park on River Road but I don’t recommend it. Instead, turn onto Petitt Way and park on the street. I do recommend taking great caution when crossing River Road. Cars move very fast on River Road, and there isn’t a long view of the road in either direction.
Bring a snack and water. There are no restrooms.
This is an informal hike so no eventbrite rsvp.
Please rsvp directly to me: revsarah@wildearthspiritual.org.
Call or text if at the last minute you can’t make it.
